BANGALORE DHNS: Pointing out that a
lack of sense of Justice is undermining the stability of the society, Karnataka
High Court Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph on
Thursday called upon the State Legal Services
Authority to initiate steps to develop “true sense of justice” among the
people.
Inaugurating the
National Legal Literacy Week in Bangalore, the Chief Justice said, unfortunately
people, including those in high position, lack objectivity in putting into
practice the sense of justice, which is nothing but respect for the
truth.
Referring to certain
anonymous letters, received by the authority, criticising the participation of
judges in Lok Adalats, the Chief Justice said that such baseless criticism could
be made only by those who were either frustrated with the success of Lok
Adalats or intended to malign the judiciary and individuals in the
institution.
“No Judge would be
wasting energy in participating in Lok Adalats as per the Legal Services
Authorities Act.
Instead they would be
properly using their time and energy to reduce burden on regular courts by
convincing the litigants to settle their disputes amicably in Adalats,” he
felt.
He hailed the Authority
for settling over 58,000 cases, which is highest in its history, through the Lok
Adalats during the last 10 months.
